Tujuh Cara Mengatasi Kesulitan Rezeki

Liku-liku kehidupan memang tak bisa dikalkulasi dengan hitungan. Negeri yang sedemikian makmurnya ini, terancam kekurangan sandang, pangan dan papan. Kegoncangan melanda di mana-mana. Kegelisahan menjadi selimut kehidupan yang tidak bisa ditanggalkan. Begitulah kalau krisis ekonomi sudah memakan korban.
Seakan manusia telah lalai, bahwa segala yang terhampar di jagat raya ini ada Dzat yang mengaturnya. Apakah mereka tidak ingat Allah Ta’ala telah berfirman,
“Dan tidaklah yang melata di muka bumi ini melainkan Allahlah yang memberi rezekinya.” (QS. Hud: 6)
Keyakinan yang mantap adalah bekal utama dalam menjalani asbab (usaha) mencari rezeki. Ar-Rahman (Allah yang Maha Penyayang) yang menjadikan dunia ini sebagai negeri imtihan (ujian), telah memberikan jalan keluar terhadap problem yang dihadapi manusia. Di antaranya:

1. Berusaha dan Bekerja

Sudah merupakan sunnatullah seseorang yang ingin mendapatkan limpahan rezeki Allah harus berusaha dan bekerja. Hal ini berdasarkan firman Allah Ta’ala,
“Kalau telah ditunaikan shalat Jum’at maka bertebaranlah di muka bumi dan ingatlah Allah sebanyak-banyaknya agar kalian bahagia.” (QS. Al-Jumu’ah: 10)
Rezeki Allah itu harus diusahakan dan dicari. Tapi, kadang-kadang karena gengsi, sombong dan harga diri seseorang enggan bekerja. Padahal mulia atau tidaknya suatu pekerjaan itu dilihat apakah pekerjaan tersebut halal atau haram.
2. Taqwa

Banyak orang melalaikan perkara ini, karena kesempitan hidup yang dialaminya. Dia mengabaikan perintah-perintah Allah, karena tidak sabar menunggu datangnya pertolongan Allah. Padahal Allah Ta’ala telah menyatakan,
“Dan barangsiapa yang bertakwa kepada Allah niscaya Dia akan mengadakan jalan keluar baginya. Dan memberikan rezeki kepadanya dari arah yang tidak disangka-sangkanya.” (QS. Ath-Thalaq: 2)
Yaitu ‘Dari jalan yang tidak diharapkan dan diangankan-angankan,’ demikian komentar Qatadah, seorang tabi’in (Tafsir Ibnu Katsir 4/48). Lebih jelas lagi Syaikh Salim Al-Hilali mengatakan bahwa Allah Yang Maha Tinggi dan Agung memberitahukan, barangsiapa yang bertaqwa kepada-Nya niscaya Dia akan memberikan jalan keluar terhadap problem yang dihadapinya dan dia akan terbebas dari mara bahaya dunia dan akhirat serta Allah akan memberi rezeki dari arah yang tidak disangka-sangka (Bahjatun Nadhirin 1/44).

3. Tawakkal
Allah berfirman:
“Dan barangsiapa yang bertawakkal kepada Allah niscaya Dia akan mencukupi (keperluan)nya.”(QS. Ath-Thalaq: 3)
Yakni, “Barangsiapa yang menyerahkan urusannya kepada Allah niscaya Dia akan mencukupi apa yang dia inginkan,” demikian kata Imam Al-Qurthubi dalam dalam Al-Jami’ Ahkamul Qur’an, 8/106.
Dan tidak dinamakan tawakkal bila tidak menjalani usaha. Sesungguhnya menjalani usaha merupakan bagian dari tawakkal itu sendiri. Oleh karena itu Ibnul Qoyyim mengatakan, “Tawakkal dan kecukupan (yang Allah janjikan) itu, bila tanpa menjalani asbab (usaha-pent.) yang diperintahkan, merupakan kelemahan semata, sekali pun ada sedikit unsur tawakkalnya. Hal yang demikian itu merupakan tawakkal yang lemah. Maka dari itu tidak sepantasnya seorang hamba menjadikan sikap tawakkal itu lemah dan tidak berbuat dan berusaha. Seharusnya dia menjadikan tawakkal tersebut bagian dari asbab yang diperintahkan untuk dijalani, yang tidak akan sempurna makna makna tawakkal kecuali dengan itu semua.” (Zadul Ma’ad 2/315).
Rasulullah shallallahu alaihi wasallam mengingatkan kita dalam riwayat yang shahih,
“Seandainya kalian bertawakkal kepada Allah dengan sebenar-benar tawakkal, niscaya Dia akan memberikan rezeki kepada kaian sebagaimana burung diberi rezeki. Pergi di pagi hari dalam keadaan perut kosong, (dan) pulang sore hari dalam keadaan kenyang.” (HR. An-Nasai, At-Tirmidzi dan Ibnu Majah)
4. Syukur 
Syukur adalah jalan lain yang Allah berikan kepada kaum mukminin dalam menghadapi kesulitan rezeki. Dalam surat Ibrahim ayat 7 Allah berfirman,
“Kalau seandainya kalian bersyukur, sungguh-sungguh Kami akan menambah untuk kalian (nikmat-Ku) dan jika kalian mengingkarinya, sesungguhnya adzab-Ku sangat keras.” (QS. Ibrahim: 7)
Oleh karena itu dengan cara bersyukur insya Allah akan mudah urusan rezeki kita. Adapun hakekat syukur adalah, “Mengakui nikmat tersebut dari Dzat Yang Maha Memberi nikmat dan tidak mempergunakannya untuk selain ketaatan kepada-Nya,” begitu Al-Imam Qurthubi menerangkan kepada kita (Tafsir Qurthubi 9/225)

5. Berinfaq
Sebagian orang barangkali menyangka bagaimana mungkin berinfaq dapat mendatangkan rezeki dan karunia Allah, sebab dengan berinfaq harta kita menjadi berkurang. Ketahuilah Dzat Yang maha Memberi Rezeki telah berfirman,
“Dan apa-apa yang kalian infaqkan dari sebagian harta kalian, maka Allah akan menggantinya.” (QS. Saba: 39)
6. Silaturrahmi
Dalam hal ini Rasulullah shallallahu alaihi wasallam bersabda,
“Barangsiapa yang berkeinginan untuk dibentangkan rezeki baginya dan dipanjangkan umurnya, maka hendaklah menyambung silaturrahmi.” (HR. Al-Bukhari dan Muslim)

7. Doa
Allah memberikan senjata yang ampuh bagi muslimin berupa doa. Dengan berdoa seorang muslim insya Allah akan mendapatkan apa yang dia inginkan. Rasulullah shallallahu alaihi wasallam menuntun kita agar berdoa tatkala kita menghadapi kesulitan rezeki.
“Ya Allah aku meminta kepadaMu ilmu yang bermanfaat, rezeki yang baik dan amalan yang diterima.” (HR. Ibnu Majah dan yang selainnya).

Kisah Asma bint Marwan dan Ka'ab bin Asyraf

Dua kisah yang sering dibawa oleh Islamophobes untuk menghujat Nabi SAW adalah kisah pembunuhan Asma' bint Marwan dan Ka'ab bin Asyraf.

Kisah Asma bint Marwan ini meskipun ditemukan dalam sirah Ibn Ishaq, Ibn Hisyam, dan Ibn Sa'ad, dilihat dari sanadnya tidak bisa dipercaya. Dengan demikian, logically, tidak relevant lagi pertanyaan bagaimana Asma bint Marwan menemui ajalnya, karena ada atau tidaknya figure tersebut pun tidak bisa diketahui secara pasti historically.

Ini pelajaran buat kita, jangan percaya begitu saja semua kisah2 dalam sirah2 Nabi SAW tanpa mencheck reliability nya. Tidak sedikit kisah2 di sirah Nabi yang tidak memiliki sanad sehingga tidak bisa ditrace reliability nya seperti halnya dengan hadits. Tidak sedikit pula kisah2 di sirah yang memiliki sanad bahkan cenderung bisa ditemukan similarity nya dengan kisah di dalam hadits pula.

Kisah Ka'ab ibn Ashraf ini ditemukan dalam hadits shahih Bukhari, Abu Dawud, dll.
Kisahnya ini terjadi setelah perang Badar, ketika umat Islam dalam persiapan perang menghadapi pembalasan Quraisy menyerang umat Islam. Ka'ab pergi ke Mekkah dan mengobarkan semangat balas dendam Quraisy terhadap kekalahan mereka di Badr. Ini dilakukannya dengan syair2 provokasi mendorong Quraisy menghabisi umat Islam dan Muhammad di Madinah. Ibn Hisham p.365-366 states that when Ka'ab "became certain that the news was true he left the town and went to Mecca to stay with al-Muttalib who was married to `Atika. She took him in and entertained him hospitably. He began to insults against the Apostle and to recite verses in which he bewailed the Quraysh who were thrown into the pit after having been slain at Badr."

Kejadian ini terjadi dalam masa peperangan dan Ka'ab dengan jelas berpihak pada musuh dan memanasi mereka untuk menghabisi umat Islam. Ini mirip dengan propaganda kebencian dan permusuhan ang disebarkan Nazi untuk menghabisi 6 juta orang Yahudi.   Ka'ab juga menyebarkan propaganda kebencian dan permusuhan terhadap kaum Muslimin dengan syair2nya, termasuk menghina kehormatan perempuan2 Muslim. Ibn Hisham p.367 menyebutkan: "Then he composed amatory verses -expression of exciting sexual love- of an insulting nature about the Muslim women."  Syair/poetry saat itu di Arab merupakan one dangerous weapon yang bisa digunakan untuk memprovokasi terjadinya permusuhan, pembunuhan dan peperangan. Semua historians jelas2 mengakui hal ini, termasuk  orientalists seperti Rodinson, Margoliouth. "Satire was a far more effective weapon in Arabia than elsewhere" (Margoliouth, Mohammed, p.278).

Sirah Ar-Rahiq Al-Makhtum juga menyebutkan: "On hearing the news of Badr -that Qur'aish was lost-, he [Ka'ab] got terribly exasperated and swore that he would prefer death to life if the news was true. When this was confirmed he wrote poems satirizing Muhammad (peace be upon him), eulogizing Quraish and enticing them against the Prophet (peace be upon him). He then rode to Makkah where he started to trigger the fire of war, and kindle rancour against the Muslims in Madinah." (p.241)

Ka'ab tidak hanya memprovokasi pihak Mekkah tapi juga di Madinah kepada orang2 munafik dan Yahudi dengan kata2 vulgarnya. Saat itu orang2 Islam sedang mempersiapkan segala resources mereka untuk menghadapi pembalasan dari Quraisy (di Uhud), dan dalam situasi seperti itu pun Nabi Muhammad SAW sempat memperingati Ka'ab untuk berhenti dari provokasinya, tapi tidak dihiraukan: "He (Ka'b) refused, after warnings from the Prophet, to stop his dirty campaign and sinister intrigues. He was bent on fomenting a revolt against the Prophet and the Muslims in Madinah. By all these actions, Ka'b had openly declared war against the Prophet. He was dangerous and a public enemy to the nascent Muslim state" (Biography of the Prophet's Companions).

Nabi SAW sebagai pimpinan negara Madinah saat itu juga pemimpin perang berhak mengambil tindakan untuk menstop provokasi Ka'ab ini sebelum non-Muslims di Madinah terpengaruh kebencian dan memberontak untuk menghabisi umat Islam dari dalam. Sebenarnya tindakan Ka'ab jelas2 merupakan act of treason dan Bani Nadir (kaumnya Ka'ab) mendiamkannya saja (padahal mereka turut menandatangi perjanjian damai di Madinah), meskipun demikian, Nabi tidak menghukum seluruh Bani Nadir, tapi hanya menghukum si provokator. Ka'ab tinggal di fortress (benteng) yang besar dan dia termasuk orang yang disegani kaumnya dan banyak pengikutnya. Untuk memeranginya langsung tidak mudah karena akan menimbulkan peperangan dengan Bani Nadir dan meluasnya chaos di dalam Madinah, di saat para kafir Quraisy sudah siap mengattack kapan saja.

Para Islamophobes berlaku tidak honest dengan mengklaim bahwa Ka'ab tidak pantas untuk dibunuh karena cuma mengeluarkan kata2 hinaan saja yang merupakan "freedom of expression", karena mereka tidak menerangkan the whole story dan tidak melihat dari sudut pandang mereka yang sedang berperang pada zaman tsb. Dengan retorika dan pemilihan kata2 yang dibuat sedemikian rupa para Islamophobes ini berusaha membuat para pembacanya tidak melihat rangkaian peristiwa yang menyebabkan peristiwa tsb terjadi. Para Islamophobes ini juga berusaha membuat impression dengan permainan kata2, bahwa Ka'ab sebagai seorang kriminal biasa yang harus diadili dengan hukum yang berlaku. Apakah mereka lupa (atau tidak tahu) hukum apa yang ada di zaman Arab saat itu untuk mengadili orang yang melakukan act of treason dan menyebarkan propaganda berbahaya, apalagi di tengah2 pada masa peperangan?

Tolong dikoreksi kalau ada yang salah dan kurang.

Keimanan terhadap Tuhan, masalah dosa dan akhirat memang tidak ada yang bisa mengetahuinya tanpa informasi dari kitab suci.

"Among mankind there are people who debate about God,
without knowledge, without guidance, and without Book that brings light".
(Qur'an 22:8)

Tanpa kitab suci, manusia hanya bisa menduga2 tanpa mengetahuinya secara pasti:

"But among them follow nothing but conjectures, speculations.
Truly conjectures can be of no avail against the truth.
Verily Allah is well aware of all that they do."
(Qur'an 10:36)

Ad/iklan di Bus tentang hukuman mati buat murtad...

Terus terang, ketika saya membaca Islamophobic ad ini saya jadi teringat tidak sedikit orang2 Islam yang masih beranggapan bahwa orang murtad harus dihukum mati. Tidak sedikit ulama di negara2 seperti Arab Saudi, Malaysia, dan lainnya, yang menganjurkan hukum ini dalam jurisprudence mereka. Makanya tidak heran kalau orang2 non-Muslim yang baru tahu akan hal ini berusaha mengconvince masyarakat mereka akan bahayanya pandangan ini. (terlepas dari their Islamophobic agenda to spread the hate propaganda towards Islam and Muslims).

It is interesting to know apa komentar mereka yang setuju hukuman mati terhadap orang murtad ketika melihat ad ini ya?

Kebaikan dalam bulan Ramadhan

Saya teringat khutbah Jum'at dua minggu yang lalu di masjid di sini..

Bulan puasa ini bisa dianalogikan seperti bulan yg ada "big sale" dengan discount yg besar2an di dalamnya, seperti big sale dgn semboyan "buy one, get 10 free", bayangkan berapa banyak orang berduyun2 yg mengantri.... Atau seperti bulan di mana ada "big return on investment", seperti adanya company yg menawarkan $1 investment akan direturn 10x sampai 700x, bayangkan berapa banyak orang berbondong2 menginvestasikan harta mereka di sana.

Belum lagi ada "bonus" besar di dalamnya, di mana satu malam yg beribadah di dalamnya bernilai 1000 bulan (~1000x30 = 30,000 hari). Seperti kalau ada company yg memberi bonus tahunan sebesar 30,000x gaji sehari, akan berapa banyak orang berbondong2 berusaha mendapatkan bonus ini.

Semua ini ada dalam bulan mulia ini dan sepenuhnya berdasarkan kebijaksaan, yg telah ditentukan oleh Allah SWT, pencipta alam semesta, bukan aturan yg dibuat2 sembarangan dan hanya omong kosong belaka untuk iming2 orang awam bodoh seperti tuduhan sebagian orang.

Orang yang menganggap buat apa ibadah kalau niatnya cari pahala serupa dengan orang yang menolak bonus yang diberikan oleh pemilik perusahaan yang memang sudah menetapkan hal ini dalam kebijaksanaannya. jangan complaint nanti kalau employee yang lain dapat bonus, tapi dia tidak mendapat apa2, dikarenakan sikap 'ujub, merasa superior dari employee lainnya.

"Setiap amal anak Adam akan dibalas berlipat ganda. Kebaikan dibalas sepuluh kali lipatnya sampai
700 kali lipat. Allah Ta`ala berfirman, `Kecuali puasa, di mana puasa itu adalah untuk diri-Ku dan Aku akan membalasnya. Dia meninggalkan nafsu syahwat dan makanan demi diri-Ku. Dan orang yang berpuasa itu memiliki 2 kegembiraan; kegembiraan saat berbuka dan kegembiraan saat berjumpa dengan Rabbnya. Dan sesungguhnya bau mulut orang yang berpuasa itu lebih harum di sisi Allah daripada bau minyak kesturi" (HR. al-Bukhari dan Muslim)

Sesungguhnya Kami menurunkan Al-Qur'an pada malam kemuliaan, tahukah engkau apakah malam kemuliaanitu ? Malam kemuliaan  itu lebih baik dari seribu bulan, pada malam itu turunlah melaikat-malaikat dan Jibril dengan izin Allah Tuhan mereka (untuk membawa) segala usrusan, selamatlah malam itu hingga terbit fajar". (97:1-5)

"(Pahala dari Allah) itu bukanlah menurut angan-anganmu yang kosong  dan tidak (pula) menurut angan-angan Ahli Kitab..." (Qur'an 4:!23)


Mudah2an Allah SWT menerima semua ibadah kita, puasa kita, shalat kita, doa kita, zakat, infaq dan sedekah kita dan semua amalan lainnya. Mudah2an Allah SWT melimpahkan kesehatan dan kekuatan kepada kita semua untuk menyelesaikan ibadah di bulan Ramadhan ini dan memberikan kita semua juga keluargadan karib kerabat kita semua kesempatan untuk bertemu lagi dengan Ramadhan di tahun2 mendatang.

Orang tua Nabi di neraka?

"Dari Anas: bhw seorang laki prnh bertanya, "Ya Rasulullah! Dimanakah tempat ayahku ?" 
Jawab Nabi, "Di Neraka!" Tatkala orang itu berpaling hendak pergi, beliau memanggilnya, lalu beliau bersabda, "Sesungguhnya bapakku & bapakmu tempatnya di neraka" 

Dari Abu Hurairah: Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam pernah ziarah kekubur ibunya, lalu ia menangis yg menyebabkan orang2 disekelilingnya (para shahabat) turut menangis. Lalu beliau bersabda, 'Aku meminta izin pd Tuhanku spy aku dibolehkan utk mohon ampun baginya, tpi tidak diizinkan bagiku. Lalu aku meminta izin supaya aku dibolehkan menziarahi kuburnya, maka diizinkan bagiku. 


Kedua hadits di atas diriwayatkan oleh Imam Muslim. Sudah lama hadits ini ramai diperdebatkan di beberapa forum diskusi antara yg pro dan kontra terhadap pendapat orang tua Nabi SAW masuk neraka.

Saya pernah menyimpan link yg memuat tulisan dari Imam Suyuthi mengenai hal ini di mana beliau membahas secara detail dalil2 dari Qur'an dan hadits2 Nabi yg berkaitan termasuk dua hadits yg disebut di bawah, dan berkesimpulan bahwa orangtua Nabi SAW tidaklah di neraka:

Diskusi singkat dengan Islamophobe

Kemarin saya menerima beberapa emails dari seorang Islamophobe. Kayaknya email2 macam ini sudah menjadi semacam modus operandi para Islamophobes untuk disebarkan dengan tambahan list of selective verses, hadith and sirah yang di copy paste dari website buku "The Prophet of Doom".
Berikut ini diskusi saya dengan Islamophobe yang satu ini yang berlangsung kemarin. Saya share di sini dengan harapan mudah2an bisa bermanfaat bagi yang membutuhkannya. Mudah2an diskusi kemarin itu tidak sia2... Amin.


ISLAMOPHOBE:
your "holy" books are filled with chaos, decadence, murder, and pedophilia. mohammed is not a prophet except maybe a prophet of satan. if anyone reads the books of the koran and hadith and says "These are Holy" that person is mentally defective and in need of medical attention.

RESPONSE:
the burden of proofs is upon those who bring the accusation. everyone claims that they have truth, but they don't know what truth is.
what is truth? truth is factuality and logical. factual means every statement should be backed by observable facts. logical means every statement should be consistent without contradiction. every accusation must be backed by facts and must be logical. otherwise it must be tossed away by any sane person.

have you read the qur'an by yourself from cover to cover? i urge you to read it and see it for yourself. don't let others to deceive you especially those who already have preconceived ideas and hate in their heart. how could you judge about something justly if you already hate it in the first place without any proof?

when we talked about person in the past, we must rely on historical records that are reliable. we should not trust any report that are not reliable. and we read a biography of a person in the past, especially those that have long story, we should not read it partially, cutting and paste episodes from the story, which will make us not understanding the whole story correctly. it is like you are watching a long movie. we should watch it from start to end. this means we need to understand the context. without this, we may not understand the story correctly. good person can be portrayed as bad, and bad person can be potrayed as good. i urge you to read the story of the prophet (sirah, hadith) from cover to cover to understand the whole story and its context. do not rely on some books written by people who have hatred in their heart in the first place. i urge you to read it by yourself with sincerity and open mindness.

my friend i have studied islam for several years, i have read your books, DO NOT for a second think that i dont know your religion. i know it well, i know it inside and outside. their books are filled with some of the dumbest and stupidest things that have no explaination, i guess thats why things get abbrogated from them. like satan lives in your nose at night so before prayers in the morning you must snort water into your nose, or if you fall asleep while prayer the devil will pee in your ear. just stupid nonsense.

RESPONSE:
it seems what you can do is basically copy and paste selective qur'anic verses, hadith and sirah that have been taken out of taken, mostly taken from the prophet of doom book. i read this book and if you read it with sincerety you can find many fallacies in them (quoting from sources that not acceptable by scholars, from unauthentic, unreliable sources, quoting using wrong translation, quoting out of context, quoting without comprehensive knowledge about islamic jurisprudence, double standard, different standard, half-truths, etc).
about hadith that seems does not make any sense if translated literally, why not take it as an allegorical or metaphorical? many hadith have this style. also if you insists to translate this as literal, do you know anything about the nature of satan? can satan be observed by our five senses empirically? how do you judge then? and god knows best.

please free yourself from being deceived by people who hate islam without even bother to look the facts by yourself. read the qur'an from cover to cover with open mind. think other possibilities, not just one from your preconceived ideas. insha allah.

islam is a cult. mohammed is a prophet of satan himself, if you would like more proof of this i can give it to you, but i see you have ignored defending your religion, actually your offense is your defense because nobody can defend something that rediculous and stupid. mohammed filled NO prophecies. mohammed was a violent sexually indulgent individual while Christ was peaceful, and pure. mohammed was a liar, a murderer and a pedophile, an ancient Jim Jones with no kool aid to poison his people, so he poisoned them with lies.

RESPONSE:
islam was not a new religion. it was a religion of adam and all prophets after him. it was sent down by god to reveal his true teaching that has been corrupted by many after jesus. islam taught people to return to worship only god and no others. it never teaches muslim to worship muhammad since he was only a human. if muhammad was a liar, he could have taught his followers to worship him and elevate him to high status like god, but not, he even asked people to keep sitting, not stand to up when he came to their gathering. before his prophethood he lived a rich life with his wife and enjoyed the high status in his community. after his proclaim of prophethood, his life was changed drastically, he was boycotted, opposed, and targetted for assasination by his own people. he even rejected the offer from his people to become their king with abundant of wealth with only one condition: stop teaching them to worship only god. he could've accepted their offer and live a happy life. but no, he chose otherwise. his life was full of struggles for bringing the message to the completion: worship only god almighty.

the accusation that prophet muhammad was deceived can be answered just by quoting verses from your bible: Matthew 12:22-28. jesus answered the pharisees when they accused him of deceived by devil, that THE DEVIL CANNOT STAND AGAINST HIMSELF. the qur'an is full of warnings about devil deceptions including prayer against him. prophet muhammad was also performing exorcisms in the name of god casting out devils from people who were possessed. these are found in reliable historical records. then if you follow jesus in matthew above, you could not say muhammad was deceived by devil since he was performing exorcism as jesus did and the qur'an teaching is against the devil.
i don't think you know my religion, since if you know, you won't be doing copying and pasting selective, mistranslated, out-of-context, and ignorant quotations from books written by hateful people intending to spread hate propaganda. only ignorants and bigots who would do such thing. i hope you are not one of them. again, the burden of proofs is upon those who bring the accusation. your accusation against the prophet muhammad do not have any reliable historical basis as well as sound argument. they are clouded by hateful feeling and fallacious arguments as i mentioned earlier before.

i learned islam because i wanted to know how people could be so cruel to my people in egypt (the coptic), i wanted to know why they cried out for israel to give them land, even tho the palestinians twice rejected offers for their own land for their own country, and yet they opress my people in egypt in violent ways that cannot be described and i have seen it with my own eyes. so i studied, so i could know why muslims do what they do. do not ever EVER refer to me as ignorant of your religion i think you are upset because i got you clocked, i know you by your belief. i am by no means a foolish person foolish enough to speak against something i know nothing about. your prophet commands you to destroy us, commands you to fight until the religion of the world is for allah, he commands no mercy, he commands fighting and bloodshed, he not only allows but teaches to hit women. i cannot believe in something so intolerant and violent as islam.

i don't know much about the cruelty of muslims in your country to your own people/coptics. but we should not overgeneralize this to all muslims. some muslims are extremists similar with some christians or some jews or some hindus. these extremists have wrong interpretation about their religion's teachings. we should not paint all with the same brush. sometimes people mix between politics and religions. we should know better than them. if islam teaches its followers to eradicate non muslims, there will be no christians or jews, or hindus left in egypt, syria, india, and other countries where muslim was majority and had power against them in the past. even nowadays, the majority muslim countries like indonesia and malaysia, non-muslims enjoying living even with more wealth compared with their own muslim neighbors.

i can know what is evil based on the Orthodox Church, islam is a direct opposite that. its an easy religion for a man and scary one for a woman. the koran and hadith are a joke, they are not divinely inspired hence the first 2 suras are very peaceful then allah changes his mind? then says that if these verses contradict the newer one replaces the old, completely negating the first 2 suras, that means allah changes his mind and didnt have it right the first time. or how allah tricked the people when Christ was crucified to make look as if He was crucified but he really wasnt, so allah also tricks people, that is evil. mohammed learned Christianity from a heretical nestorian monk who taught him all kinds of falsehoods. when mohammed supposedly seen the archangel he didnt know if it was the devil or allah. i asked a muslim cleric this question and he said this" when he went back to hadija he told her what he saw and she replied is he still there, mohammed said yes.hadija then lifted her dress exposing her private parts and asked mohammed do you still see him, mohammed replied no. hadija said then this is from allah, no holy angel would have looked upon me in that way." seriously?

please answer the following:
- do you know what the first 2 surahs you are talking about here? please let me know what you have mind.
- where is the verse(s) in the qur'an or the hadith that mention that the fighting verses in the qur'an abrogate or replace the peaceful ones?
the topic of abrogation should have basis on the qur'an and hadith. any opinion outside the qur'an and hadith cannot be used as basis, but merely opinion, there no legal binding to it.

- where in the qur'an that says god "tricks" people in the event of crucifixion?
- is it evil for god to protect his prophet from being killed or crucified by his enemy?
- where is the historical record that show this existence of heretical nestorian monk who taugh muhammad falsehood?
- who is this muslim cleric that said khadija lifted her dress after the first revelation? on what basis he said that?

mohammed was just some power hungry guy comes along learns a bit of religion twists it and gets people to follow his version because its new. he then teaches that he knows the truth as god has revealed it to him and nobody else has the truth, jews, christians all of them got it wrong and or perverted it, i have it right the man claims. over time, as in islam, the peaceful ways start to turn more violent, the leader starts womanizing, Bukhari vol.5 no.236 "The prophet married aisha when she was a girl of six years of age and consummated hat marriage when she was nine years old", believing himself to be god or some prophet of god, as he grows more violent he also grows more and more delusional and paranoid. like in the hadith Bukhari Vol. 2 no. 167 " The sun eclipsed and the prophet jumped up terrified that it might be the hour (of judgement)" its pretty basic, mohammed did this very same thing, starting off rather peaceful and normal, over a progression of time he became more and more violent and more delusional with his sayings, maybe he was epileptic. this is actually in several areas of the hadith vol.1 nos. 1,2,3,4 etc. you know that mohammed said very insane things like adam was 90 feet tall Bukhari vol. IV no 543 narrated abu huraira:The prophet said,"allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall" or this Bukhari vol. IV no. 516 "Satan stays in the upper part of the nose all night." um what? or how about this scientific nonsense Muslim vol.III nos.5113 " a believer eats in one intestine while a non-believer eats in seven intestines" again, what? another connundrum. Muslim vol.IV no. 5612 It is prohibited to play chess. allahs apostle said, "He who played chess is like one who dyed his hand with the flesh and blood of swine." well i guess i must be spiritually inept cause these are just silliness to me, lol. this is why i pity muslims and i understand why they cannot conceive of Christ being God or the Trinity.

about islam peaceful turn violent:
i don't think you know the history of islam well. islam was peaceful at the beginning, and the followers were tortured and killed by the pagans until they were forced to migrate. even then the pagans still pursuing them wanted to crush them once for all. why is it wrong for these people to stand up and fight for their life? even after so many battles, when muhammad was finally victorious and entering his hometown makkah, he did not eradicate all his enemies but forgived them, including those who killed his daughter and his uncle and mutilated him. even after muhammad passed away, his shield was still in the hand of his jew neighbor in madinah for the collateral of his debt. if he was eradicating non-muslims, why on earth this jew still living in madinah as his neighbor???

the marriage with aisha:
first, the idea of being marriage to aisha beside saudah was brought up by one of his companion for him to remarry after the death of his wife, khadija. even before being proposed by muhammad, someone else had proposed aisha's hand from her parents. this shows that this was acceptable tradition back then. the pagans of makkah, the enemies of islam, who hated him could have used this if it's not acceptable to attack the personality of muhammad. but they did not since it's acceptable tradition back then.

about the eclipse:
the hadith reads: The sun eclipsed and the Prophet got up, being afraid that it might be the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment). He went to the Mosque and offered the prayer with the longest Qiyam, bowing and prostration that I had ever seen him doing. Then he said, "These signs which Allah sends do not occur because of the life or death of somebody, but Allah makes His worshipers afraid by them. So when you see anything thereof, proceed to remember Allah, invoke Him and ask for His forgiveness."

what is so strange about this?? is it weird to be afraid of the day of judgement which noone knows when its time come? what's wrong with praying to god during eclipse?

about adam's tall:
does anyone know how tall was adam when he was created in heaven? do you know? then why could you tell that this statement was false?

about satan and intestines: this could be considered as metaphorical. do you have any evidence that this is otherwise? even the qur'an has metaphorical style of language as it was mentioned in one of the verses. what's so hard about understanding this?

about chess:
the hadith in sahih muslim does not have the word "chess" but "dice" that is associated with gambling. where do you get this word chess from??

about trinity:
it's not only muslims who do not understand trinity. but all people with common sense. it even took centuries for the church to formulate the trinity, there were divisions and sects that were labelled heretics by those who did not agree with them. tell why was this happening if jesus and all prophets ever mentioned this concept clearly and explisitly...

reading the history of islam invading in the 7th century, there was so much blood it was knee high. why?? because islam teaches this. and yes many muslims arent violent, because they dont know their religion like many other people of other faiths.

i have converted many muslims, you know how? teaching them about their own religion they know nothing about. women in particular are very easy to convert, many of them that come to america hate islam they are tired of being oppressed by it. i dont know how anyone can cling to a religion like islam. i know this is what you were taught but you must side with truth. ive done my research my friend, i was raised liberal, no God just reason, i changed because i sought truth, i sought out the true faith. you can keep going on and on but both you and i know where the truth is and it certainly is not islam.

your quote of qur'an 8:1 is wrong. please check again your qur'an if you have any and have read it cover to cover as you claimed.
about oath/swear, people sometimes swear to not to do something because of something due to their emotion at that moment. this hadith mention teaches us that you need to expiate your oath/ pay kifarah (either feeding 10 poor people or if you can't do that fasting for three days). for example, the prophet used to eat honey and some of his wives dislike this and he swore not to eat honey again to make his wives happy. god reprimanded the prophet that he should not make the lawful food to become unlawful for him. the prophet then need to expiate his oath and pay the kifarah. what's wrong with this???

imho, muslims who converted to christianity are ignorant of their religion. they don't know anything about the qur'an, the hadith, the sirah, and their correct understanding. you seems to always say about the truth. what is the truth according to you? what is the definition?

to me truth is definetly not islam. its a made up religion. 600 years after Christianity and we are supposed to believe a guy with many wives one of them a 9 year old? there are several sources "the arab conquest of egypt" is a great book, that actual quote comes from eye witness accounts, some of the historical manuscripts survived, while many of the bibles and such were burned, these are in the Coptic Library in alexandria, i have read them myself and was pretty shocked as i didnt know it was that bad. theres also "a lonely minority" "2000 years of coptic Christianity" those all touch on that subject if youd like to read them. the thing is, anything can be justified. i can accuse your faith and you can make excuses and justifications, and you can accuse mine and think that im making excuses and justifications, its a catch 22. one of my good friends from saudi arabia knows the koran by heart, he converted, and i dont think hes ignorant in any way. hes very smart and successful. he taught me alot of what islam itself teaches outside the koran, and i have to say i was quite disgusted. bottom line is there are metaphors, not everything is literal. i cant see it though in these blatantly violent verses, are those metaphors too? i mean when you really look at islam in a subjective way, you honestly see truth or do you see it as truth because it is what you have been taught is truth, thats the difference between you and me. i willingly chose this faith because of the evidence and because of my research of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism etc. so there is the difference in thinking right there, i was not taught this so studying these faiths, i studied unbiased, where as you were taught to believe islam. therein lies our quandry.

how can i admit a statement that i know that it's wrong, factually as well as argumentatively. you can see anyone's opinion whether they are atheists, agnostics, hindus, budhist, etc. it doesn't matter what belief they profess, it's their argument is the core important. we don't use ad hominem in our argument. how could i trust you as a true historian if i can see a lot of ignorance and fallacies in your argument?
here is some of them:

1. quoting invalid source, outside qur'an and hadith
2. quoting gross, wrongly translated verses, hadith, sirah
3. quoting unreliable source, e.g. quoting unknown, weak, fabricated hadith, sirah
4. quoting verses, hadith and sirah out of context, e.g. context of war is taken in general context
5. double standard, e.g. mocking verses of war in the qur'an but silent on verses of war in the bible which are worst and more barbaric
6. different standard, e.g. the marriage of aisha as an acceptable custom and tradition of 7th century arabia compared with western 21th century customs.
7. generalization, e.g. small minority extremists were taken as good example of all muslims and islamic teaching
8. historical twists, e.g. you don't give any reliable reference to your so-called historical "facts" but rather claiming yourself as historian...
9. straw man, putting words in others' mouths, e.g. you are forcing your islamophobic interpretation and the extremists interpretation of islam to all muslims forcing them believe that yours are the "true" interpretation.
10. red herrings, e.g. instead of answering questions, you bring other issues just by copying and pasting islamophobic selective verses/hadiths without even bother to check and learn the sources, language and context.

if you still need to discuss about this islam-christianity thing you need to remember there are points that we have to agree to disagree... i will respond to your message tomorrow insha allah...

Kritik terhadap Shahih Bukhari?

Saya kurang sependapat dengan Dr.Muhibbin yang menulis buku ""Kritik keshahihan kitab shahih Bukhari" berdasarkan disertasi doktoral beliau di UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Kalau tidak salah buku Dr.Muhibbin ini pernah dibahas dalam acara bedah buku beberapa tahun yg lalu oleh beberapa scholars ahli hadits pula di Indonesia. Mungkin ada yg tahu?

Beberapa referensi yg beliau tulis di bawah mengenai adanya tulisan2 scholars yg meragukan keshahihan hadits Bukhari sebagian telah dijawab dengan rinci oleh scholars lainnya. Misalnya tuduhan bahwa Muhammad Abduh dan Muhammad Rasyid Ridha termasuk mereka yg meragukan keshahihan hadits kumpulan Imam Bukhari telah dibantah oleh Prof.Dr.M.M.Azami dan Prof.Dr.Mustafa Al-Sibai. Dalam buku "As-Sunnah wa makanatuha fi al-tasyri' al-Islami" (buku terjemahan Indonesianya: "Bagaimana kedudukan Sunnah dalam Islam"), As-Sibai juga membantah argument2 yg ditulis Ahmad Amin yg ditulis dalam "Fajr Al-Islam". Argument2 Syekh Muhammad Al-Ghazali juga telah dibahas dan dijawab oleh Syekh Yusuf Qardhawi dalam buku beliau "Kaifa nata'mal ma'as sunnah an-nabawiyah" (buku terjemahan Indonesianya: "Bagaimana bersikap terhadap sunnah Nabi". KH.Ali Mustafa Yaqub (Imam Masjid Istiqlal) juga telah banyak menulis mengenai hal ini dalam buku2 beliau, salah satunya "Kritik Hadits".

Pendapat mengenai hadits2 shahih yg dinilai lemah/palsu a priori karena dianggap bertentangan dengan Al Qur'an seperti hadits mengenai "disiksanya" orang yg telah meninggal akibat ratapan keluarganya, menurut saya harus dilihat possibilities cara memandangnya/interpretasinya, jangan langsung saja dicap bertentangan. It's possible, maksud hadits tsb adalah orang2 yg memang sengaja meminta diratapi oleh keluarganya sepeninggalnya, atau bisa jadi pula ruh orang yg telah meninggal merasakan kesedihan karena ratapan keluarganya yg sangat berlebihan sehingga terasa "tersiksa" perasaannya. Karena ini masalah ghaib, kita tidak bisa menebak2 tanpa adanya informasi dari Allah SWT melalui rasul-Nya.

Pendapat mengenai hadits2 shahih yg dinilai lemah/palsu a priori karena dianggap bersifat ramalan, menurut saya terlihat lemah argumentnya. Mengapa hadits yg meramalkan akan datangnya khulafa' rasyidin sepeninggal beliau dianggap palsu/lemah? Apakah Nabi SAW tidak mampu menerima informasi mengenai the future dari Allah SWT yg Maha Tahu akan semua events di past, present and future? Banyak hadits2 Nabi SAW yg meramalkan akan events selepas beliau dan bahkan di hari akherat nanti. Seperti berita terbunuhnya beberapa sahabat beliau, berita jatuhnya Konstatinopel, berita jatuhnya Rome, berita datangnya Dajjal/Anti-Christ, berita datangnya Nabi Isa AS, dst yg sifatnya masyhur dan mutawatir (diriwayatkan oleh banyak orang). Apakah ini semua tidak mungkin bagi seorang Nabi Allah? Salah satu ciri Nabi utusan Tuhan yg akan datang yg bisa dijumpai dalam kitab2 sebelum Islam adalah kemampuan Nabi tsb memberikan informasi ttg future yg terbukti kebenarannya. (e.g. Deuteronomy 18:18). Kata Nabi sendiri berasal dari kata naba'a yg berarti menyampaikan berita, termasuk di dalamnya berita mengenai future. Kata prophet dalam bahasa Inggris juga mengandung makna serupa yg berkaitan dengan kemampuan menyampaikan "prophecy" (informasi mengenai masa depan).

Mengenai standard "moralitas" yg dijadikan kriteria untuk menilai lemah/palsu suatu hadits, adalah juga saya lihat lemah argumentnya. Apakah karena Nabi dikatakan berpoligami dalam suatu hadits, lalu hadits tsb tidak bisa kita terima karena standard moralitas kita tidak menyetujui poligami? Lalu berapa banyak hadits yg kita bilang lemah/palsu karena Nabi berpoligami, melakukan peperangan melawan musuh2nya, menjatuhi hukuman2 terhadap kriminal, dlsb.

Hadits sebagaimana layaknya historical records adalah sumber berita mengenai sesuatu di masa lalu. Saya lihat argument orang2 yg meragukan hadits biasanya terlihat tidak konsisten. Mereka meragukan hadits dengan berargumentasi menggunakan hadits. Mereka bilang sejarah membuktikan hadits itu tidak reliable dengan mengutip hadits sebagai sumber sejarah yg mereka klaim ini. Ini namanya fallacy of using circular argument. Kalau hadits tidak bisa dipercaya, please use other historical records selain hadits yg bisa dipercaya yg berbicara tentang sejarah masa lampau.

Dulu saya pernah berdebat dgn orang2 inkar sunnah. Ketika saya tanya mereka, dari mana mereka tahu adanya Nabi Muhammad SAW yg lahir di Makkah 14 abad yg lalu, yg menerima wahyu Tuhan yg dikumpulkan di dalam Al Qur'an, yg tidak berubah isinya dari masa ke masa sampai sekarang ini...mereka bilang dari sejarah. Ketika saya tanya dari mana sumber sejarah mereka, mereka bilang dari buku2 tarikh. Ketika ditanya dari mana sumber buku2 tarikh ini kalau bukan dari hadits/narration, mereka diam.

Hadits sebagaimana layaknya historical record bisa dianalisa sumbernya (sanad) dan contentnya (matan). Keshahihan sanad belum tentu berkorelasi dengan keshahihan matan. Studi mengenai matan hadits ini bisa dibaca dalam banyak buku kritik hadits, seperti yg ditulis oleh Mustafa Assibai, Yusuf Qardhawi, Ali Mustafa Yaqub, dll. Banyak metode dan analisa yg digunakan para hadith scholars untuk menganalisa matan hadits, seperti metode tarjih, asbabul wurud, illat, analisa lafazh, majaz/allegorical, dst. Point yg biasanya ditekankan adalah jangan terburu2/gegabah mengklaim hadits tidak percaya tanpa belum adanya usaha sungguh2 untuk menganalisanya.

Tanaman dan Iman

Saya jadi ingat ceramahnya ustadz Nababan dulu bagaimana caranya menjaga iman kita.

Seperti halnya tumbuhan yg kita tanam yg memerlukan tanah yg baik, cukup cahaya matahari, siraman air, juga pupuk/nutrition, iman dalam hati kita juga memerlukan lingkungan yg baik (keluarga, teman, dll), hidayah dari Allah SWT, ceramah2 rutin berupa ilmu2 dan reminder untuk menyiram ruh, dan ibadah2 mendekatkan diri kepada Allah sebagai nutrisinya (shalat wajib, tahajud, dhuha, shadaqah, dst).

Mudah2an Allah SWT menjadikan kita tetap istiqamah.

Membantu fakir miskin


Kalau kita berjumpa dengan hal yg serupa (orang2 fakir miskin yg sangat membutuhkan), apa yg sebaiknya kita lakukan?

1. Memberi sumbangan/donation one time yg besar untuk dijadikan modal mereka bekerja
2. Memberi sumbangan/donation routinely/biweekly/monthly (seperti bantuan makan dan sekolah anak2 mereka)
3. Mengontak PKPU, Dompet Dhuafa atau Lembaga2 infaq yang amanah untuk menolong mereka
4. Mengontak Pemerintah untuk membantu mereka dgn memberikan pekerjaan yg dapat memenuhi kebutuhan mereka.
5. Mengumpulkan dana dari keluarga dan teman2 lainnya untuk membantu mereka (bisa beruba no.1 atau no.2).

Ada yg bisa urun rembuk option mana yg terbaik untuk mengatasi masalah ini?

Menjawab keraguan terhadap otentisitas Qur'an

Ada yang menanggapi tulisan mengenai sejarah Al Qur'an di bawah.
Berikut ini response saya terhadap tanggapan tsb.

Pendapat mengenai kemurnian kitab suci Al Qur'an ini tidak hanya
di kalangan Muslim awam, tapi juga di kalangan scholars, Muslim
maupun non-Muslim. Meskipun dasar keimanan terhadap ini bisa
dilihat dalam Qur'an 15:9, tetapi hal ini bisa dibuktikan melalui
catatan2 sejarah dan argumen yang logis (i.e. presevation by
memorization and the written text).

Sejarah Al Qur'am bisa dibaca oleh semua, tidak ada yang perlu
disembunyikan, dan tidak perlu juga dibuat2 seakan2 menjadi
"kompleks" apalagi "super kompleks".

Beberapa sahabat terpercaya yang ditugaskan Utsman untuk menyalin/
mengcopy mushaf Qur'an yang sebelumnya dicompiled oleh Abu Bakar
berdasarkan suhuf2 yg telah ditulis dan dihapal semasa Nabi SAW masih
hidup untuk dijadikan standard mushaf yang disebarkan ke pelosok wilayah
Islam. Utsman melakukan tugas ini untuk menghindari perpecahan di
kalangan umat Islam di daerah2 baru di luar Arabia (Armenian dan
Azerbijan). Bukan karena adanya keragaman tradisi text dan bacaan
Qur'an (di luar yang diajarkan Nabi SAW).


> Fakta yang terekam sejarah dan tidak pernah dibantah oleh
> siapapun adalah adanya ukuran yang dilakukan oleh zaid bin
> tsabit ketika ia menjawab permintaan Abu bakar untuk
> mengumpulkan Al quran

> " Demi Allah, Jika sekiranya mereka minta kami me­mindahkan
> sebuah gunung raksasa, hal itu akan terasa lebih ringan dari
> apa yang mereka perintahkan pada saya sekarang."
>
> Mengumpulkan dan menyusun Al quran di ukur oleh Tsabit sebagai
> sesuatu pekerjaa yang lebih sulit dari memindahkan gunung
> raksasa.
>
> Bisakah manusia memindahkan gunung raksasa ?.... Imposible
> bukan ?

> Jadi Pengumpulan pengumpulan dan penyusuan Al quran pada masa
> itu adalah very very Imposible.


Ucapan Zaid tsb jangan langsung diartikan literally, tapi
merupakan ungkapan perasaan beliau yang overwhelming akan beratnya
tugas tsb. Ini mengingat bahwa meskipun banyak para sahabat
menghapal Al Qur'an semasa Nabi hidup, tapi mereka yang bisa
menulis Al Qur'an dalam suhuf2 tidak sebanyak mereka yang
menghapalkan. Seandainya ada satu mushaf saja di kalangan shahabat
saat itu dan mushaf ini somehow hilang atau terbakar, Al Qur'an
tidak hilang begitu saja dari kalangan mereka karena adanya
tradisi kuat penghapalan ini. Usaha pengumpulan suhuf yang
ditugaskan kepada Zaid ini bukanlah suatu yg impossible, buktinya
Zaid akhirnya menerima tugas ini dan berhasil menyelesaikannya.



> Kalau sekarang ada Al quran di tangan anda benarkan ia kitab
> yang lengkap ? benarkah ia kitab yang sempurna seperti yang
> dipropagandakan selama ini.

Jelas benar. Historically and logically. Kalau seluruh mushaf Al Qur'an
di dunia sekarang ini dibakar semuanya dan hilang dari muka bumi,
umat Islam dengan mudah bisa menulis kembali mushaf2 yg sama
dari hapalan2 mereka. Tradisi kuat penghapalan Al Qur'an ini turun
temurun dari generasi ke generasi sejak dari zaman Nabi. Bahkan
saat ini pun mungkin ada ratusan ribu orang di seluruh dunia yang
menghapal Al Qur'an from cover to cover.


> Sahabat, Sebenarnya literatur Sunni sendiri memperbincangkan
> berbagai riwayat yang menyebutkan sejumlah ayat telah hilang
> sebelum Alquran dihimpun atas inisiatif Abu Bakar. Pakar ilmu
> Alquran Suyuti dalam Al-Itqan fi 'Ulum al-Qur'an meriwayatkan
> bahwa Umar pernah mencari-cari ayat Alquran yang ia lupa-lupa
> ingat. Umar menjadi sedih sekali, karena akhirnya ia menemukan
> orang yang mencatat ayat itu telah meninggal saat Perang
> Yamamah, dan akibatnya ayat itupun hilang (vol.I: 204). Umar
> juga ingat ayat-ayat lain yang ia pikir hilang dari Alquran,
> termasuk satu ayat tentang kewajiban terhadap orang tua dan
> satu lagi tentang jihad (vol.III: 84).

> Hal ini dibenarkan oleh Zaid bin Tsabit, Abdullah bin Abbas,
> dan Ubay bin Ka'ab.

Ada dua hal yang perlu diingat:

1. Dalam 'ulumul Qur'an, dikenal adanya konsep "nasikh wa
mansukh", di mana dikenal adanya ayat2 Qur'an yang dihapus qira'at
atau bacaannya berdasarkan petunjuk Nabi SAW berdasarkan wahyu
dari Allah SWT (2:106). Meskipun terdapat perbedaan pendapat di
antara scholars mengenai detail hal ini, kita jumpai adanya
catatan2 sejarah atau riwayat2 yang menyebutkan memang ada ayat2
yg pernah diturunkan dan dihapalkan tapi kemudian dihapuskan dari
ingatan dan bacaannya sehingga tidak dimasukkan ke dalam kumpulan
suhuf Al Qur'an semasa Nabi hidup, dan ini berdasarkan petunjuk
Nabi SAW sendiri. Jadi ayat2 tsb tidaklah hilang atau tidak ditemukan
tulisannya begitu saja setelah Nabi wafat.

2. Riwayat2 mengenai hal ini yang bisa ditemukan dalam kitab2
ulumul qur'an atau masahif tidak semuanya bisa dipercaya begitu
saja tanpa diverifikasi keshahihannya. Ini jelas2 menunjukkan
keterbukaan, tidak ada riwayat2 yang disembunyikan oleh para ulama
Islam dalam hal sejarah Al Qur'an. Mengenai hal ini one scholar
Dr.G.F.Haddad, menulis:
"Anything that comes only from kitab al-Masahif must be held in
suspension until corroborated by an independent, reliable source
or declared authentic by one of the competent authorities, or
adduced by them".

Yang jelas, riwayat2 yg nyata2 shahih telah terang menyebutkan
bahwa seluruh isi Qur'an telah dihapal dan ditulis semasa Nabi SAW
hidup di bawah supervisi beliau sendiri. Apakah masuk akal kalau
kita memilih mempercayai riwayat2 yg tidak shahih dan penuh
keraguan dibanding riwayat2 yg shahih?


> Demikian juga dikemukakan Anas bin Malik dan Abdullah bin Umar.
> Banyak keberatan juga ditujukan pada teks Alquran versi Usmani
> yang dibakukan hingga sekarang. Sejumlah riwayat menyebutkan,
> banyak sahabat terkemuka tidak menjumpai dalam teks resmi
> sejumlah ayat yang mereka sendiri dengar dari Nabi, atau
> menemukannya dalam bentuk berbeda.

> Ubay bin Ka'ab, misalnya,membaca surat al-Bayyinah dalam versi
> berbeda yang ia klaim didengarnya dari Nabi, termasuk dua ayat
> yang tidak tercatat dalam teks Usmani. Ia berkata, versi
> orisinal dari surat al-Ahzab lebih panjang; ia juga mengingat
> ayat rajam hilang dari teks Usmani. Hal ini didukung oleh Zaid
> bin Tsabit dan Aisyah (yang menyebutkan pada masa hidup Nabi
> surat tersebut tiga kali lebih panjang). Hudzaifah bin Yaman
> menemukan sekitar tujuh puluh ayat tidak tercantum dalam teks
> Usmani, ayat-ayat yang ia sendiri biasa membacanya pada masa
> hidup Nabi. Ia mengatakan, surat al-Bara'ah (ke-9) dalam teks
> Usmani hanya sepertiga atau seperempat dari apa yang ada pada
> masa Nabi.

> Riwayat di atas tidak bersumber dari orientalis, melainkan
> kitab-kitab ulama terdahulu.

Lihat point 1 (nasikh mansukh) dan 2 (keshahihan riwayat2) di
atas.

Tidak sedikit orientalist dan misionaris yang mengutip riwayat2
yang disebutkan dalam kitab2 'Ulumul Qur'an maupun Masahif,seperti
al-Itqannya Suyuthi dan al-Masahifnya Ibn Abi Dawud, tanpa analisa
yang valid, konsisten, dan komprehensif (Dr.M.M.Azami dan
Dr.M.Mohar Ali membeberkan contoh2 nyata mengenai hal ini dalam
buku2 mereka - see the reference below). Padahal As-Suyuthi maupun
Ibn Abu Dawud sendiri mengakui bahwa isi mushaf Utsman bin Affan
adalah identik dengan apa yang diajarkan oleh Nabi SAW kepada para
sahabatnya.

Dr.M.M.Azami menulis:
Even the author of al-Masahif himself, Ibn Abu Dawud, categorically denies
the reliability of reports about the variant readings which clash with the
‘Uthmanic text saying:
"We do not submit that anyone should recite the Qur’an except what
in Uthmanic mushaf. If anyone recites in his prayer against this
mushaf, I will order him to re-do his prayer." (Al-Masahif, p.53-54).

Debat Imam Syamsi dengan James White

Hari Kamis lalu saya mendengarkan acaranya langsung debat Imam Syamsi dengan James White dari radio IMAAM tapi suaranya agak kurang jelas, kemudian terputus waktu shalat Maghrib. Baru setelah Pak Duta mempost link ke video2 di youtube, saya bisa mendengarkan acaranya dgn lebih jelas. Semalam saya baru selesai nonton video2nya. It was a great debate!

Argument2nya James White mengenai the so-called Qur'an version Ibn Mas'ud dibantah Imam Syamsi dengan jelas dengan memperlihatkan kesalahan grammar the alleged manuscript, serta tidak adanya evidence mengenai the existence of this so-called mushaf/versi Ibn Mas'ud ini.

Di dalam acara debat aja terlihat ketidak jujuran si James. Waktu ust.Syamsi menjelaskan pandangan yg lebih logis mengenai interpretasi John 3:16, si James membawa John 10:30 "I and the Father are one." dan melanjutkan sampai verse 33 bahwa Jesus dilempari batu setelah berkata demikian dan dituduh mengaku dirinya sama dengan Tuhan. Tapi si James tidak melanjutkan verse berikutnya sampai 38, di mana Jesus menjelaskan argumentnya mengapa dia berkata demikian, yg jelas2 menolak tuduhan bahwa dia mengklaim dirinya Tuhan. Juga argumentnya James mengenai Bible versions yg katanya hanya translation bukan version, dijawab ust.Syamsi dengan simple dan bukti2 bahwa bukan hanya beda translation tapi penambahan dan pengurangan texts . Juga pandangan Islam mengenai original sin, crucifixion, divinity and incarnation of Jesus, semuanya dijelaskan dgn gamblang dan logis oleh ust Syamsi. Sampai2 si James kebingungan menjelaskannya dengan berbagai akrobatik kata2 yg penuh logical contradiction.

Saya rasa, juga berharap, tidak sedikit orang2 non-Muslim yg open-minded di audience dalam acara tsb yg mendengar argument2nya Imam Syamsi akan tertarik belajar lebih jauh tentang Islam dan karenanya mendapat hidayah dari Allah SWT.

Earlier today Jermaine Jackson's gave a press conference addressing the few known details surrounding his brother Michael's death. At the end of his emotional speech he says, "May Allah be with you Michael, always."

Interestingly enough, many media outlets, including The New York Times and ABC News Australia are misquoting this expression of faith.

The New York Times claims the quote was, "We all loved being with you Michael, always" whereas ABC News Australia says it was, "'May our love be with you always, brother."

Michael Jackson reportedly converted to Islam in late 2008 after he took the shahada, or oath of Islamic faith, in Los Angeles at a friend's home. He had been raised a Jehovah's Witness--which he spoke about in depth in an essay he wrote for Beliefnet in 2000. Jermaine became a Muslim in 1989.

Handling stereotyping... Not as easy as it seems.

Menghandle issue stereotyping of Muslims di Amerika dari dulu memang not as easy as it seems. Soalnya kita harus selalu menghadapi dua fronts:

1. External - dengan non-Muslims (yg berbeda2 background dan agenda)
2. Internal - dengan Muslims sendiri (yg juga berbeda2 background dan
agenda masing2 - terutama berhadapan dgn extremist mindset yg sering
memenuhi news).

Kita memerlukan resources (effort, money, time, etc) as well as good
knowledge/methods/strategies to face the challenges above....

Mudah2an Allah SWT selalu memberikan kita kesabaran dan kebahagian
dalam perjalanan da'wah... Amin.

Ayat Bible dalam film Perempuan Berkalung Sorban

Ada potongan kalimat bagus dari film "perempuan berkalung sorban". Saat si tokoh utama perempuan dan laki2nya dituduh berzina, lalu orang2 ramai2 memukul mereka dengan batu, lalu isteri kyai (ibu tokoh perempuan) ini berkata: "hanya orang2 yg tidak punya dosa saja yang berhak melempar batu."

Kok mirip ya dengan cerita Jesus di Gospel of John (John 7:53-8:11)? Sepertinya si penulis scenario film itu mungkin meminjam ide dari sana...

Terlepas dari itu, saya jadi ingat bukunya Bart Ehrman "Misquoting Jesus". Cerita ternyata ini tidak ditemukan in the earliest manuscripts, sebagaimana juga konsep Trinity di 1John 5:7. Tidak sedikit para scholars yg menganggap cerita tsb sebagai interpolation (ayat2 yg ditambah2kan oleh tangan2 penulis Bible)...

Seeing more than what your eyes can see....

Setiap hari dalam aktivitas kita tanpa terasa kita berjumpa dengan
berbagai macam bentuk makhluk ciptaan Allah yang berada di
sekeliling kita. Kita berjumpa dengan berbagai rupa orang yang
simpang siur di jalan. Di jalan, kita lewati pepohonan, rerumputan,
bunga2 di taman. Semua lewat di hadapan kita, kita lihat, biasa
saja. Tidak ada specialnya. Tidak terasa impactnya dalam hati kita,
karena pikiran kita terkonsentrasi kepada masalah pekerjaan kita,
sekolah, bisnis, keuangan, kesehatan, keluarga, politik, umat, dlsb.

Suatu hari saya menyetir mobil keluar kota selama 3 jam. Karena
lama dalam perjalanan, untuk menghindari rasa kantuk, pandangan
saya arahkan sekali2 kepada pepohonan di kanan kiri jalan. Di dalam
perjalanan, terlihat berbagai macam bentuk dan jenis pepohonan,
dan rerumputan. Berbagai warna dari hijau tua, hijau muda, kuning,
merah dan coklat. Pandangan saya arahkan ke deretan pepohonan
pinus yang tinggi dan tampak gagah serta indah di pandang mata.
Di bawahnya pohon2 kecil tanpa daun hanya batang dan ranting2
saja dengan semak2 berbagai rupa dan rerumputan hijau terhampar
luas menghiasi lembah dengan sungai di sekelilingnya.

Tiba2 saya berpikir, bagaimana ya caranya mendesign pepohonan
tersebut dengan artificial intelligence dan biotechnology program?

Terbayangkan oleh saya bagaimana sulitnya membuat sebuah program
virtual reality dengan simulation modeling untuk suatu jenis tanaman
dengan berbagai properties dan functions lengkap dengan parameternya
yang menentukan proses pertumbuhan dari sebuah biji, design
batangnya, design cabang dan rantingnya, design dedaunannya, design
kulit pohonnya, maximum limit besar batangnya, maximum tinggi
pohonnya, ukuran maximum daunnya, warna dan texturenya, dlsb.
Belum lagi bentuk design keseluruhan dari pohon tadi bila telah jadi
sempurna yang tentunya semua scenario pertumbuhannya harus
diperhitungkan secara detail pula. Dan yang teramat sulit, setiap
pohon harus beda dengan pohon lainnya karena banyaknya faktor berbeda
yang mempengaruhi berbagai parameter dalam functionsnya. Tidak seperti 
membuat cetakan dasar untuk membuat semua output yang identical.

Itu baru satu jenis saja. Belum lagi kita lihat ribuan jenis tumbuhan
lainnya. Itu pun baru dalam dunia tumbuhan, belum lagi dunia hewan,
dalam lingkungan terjangkau pandangan mata, belum lagi yang di luar
pandangan mata, seperti mikrokosmos (atom, cell, molecule, mineral,
etc) dan makrokosmos (planets, stars, galaxies, etc.) yang semuanya
berjalan dengan hukum2 yang jelas diatur designnya tidak random
semata. Jangan jauh2, tubuh kita sendiri sebagai bukti nyata
the grand design of the Creator. Perhatikan detak jantung memompa
darah tiap detik, paru2 tempat keluar masuk udara, serabut2 urat
nadi, sel2 otak, jaringan syaraf, dlsb. Semuanya membuktikan
adanya FINE TUNING, design mutakhir. No more or less.

Subhanallah... Ahsanul Khaliqin... The Best Designer dan Creator...
Tiap hari saya lihat pepohonan dan rerumputan, tapi kenapa tidak
terpikirkan selama ini betapa kompleksnya proses pembuatannya?

Sayang seribu sayang banyak orang yang melewati ini semua di hadapan
mata, tanpa terasa apapun dalam dada...

Maka apakah mereka tidak berjalan di muka bumi, lalu mereka
mempunyai hati yang dengan itu mereka dapat memahami atau
mempunyai telinga yang dengan itu mereka dapat mendengar?
Karena sesungguhnya bukanlah mata itu yang buta, tetapi
yang buta, ialah hati yang di dalam dada. (Qur'an 22:46)

Berdiskusi dengan missionaris James White

Saya pernah berdiskusi beberapa kali dengan James White di youtube (user namenya: DrOakley1689) beserta murid2 dan simpatisan2 nya di sana. Karena mereka dididik dalam background apologetics ministry, saya lihat jelas sekali arrogancy mereka dalam berargumentasi, jarang sekali mau mengakui kesalahan meskipun telah jelas ditunjukkan, biasanya bukannya mengakui kesalahan tapi berusaha changing the subject (red-herring) mengalihkan perhatian ke topik lain, atau berkilah "it's only minor mistake" kemudian berusaha memblame Muslims yg dituduhnya juga sering melakukan kesalahan serupa. Sayang semua comments di youtube accountnya sekarang dihapus (not sure why he did it), padahal banyak diskusi2 yg sangat bermanfaat terutama tentang argumentasi mereka di sana.

di mana James White jelas2 mengquote referensi dari buku misionaris yg diklaimnya dari buku Yasir Qadhi's ulumul Qur'an.

Lihat juga responsenya James White yg beralasan (setelah diperlihatkan ketidakjujurannya), bahwa dia salah membaca html code dalam list referencenya:

(dia sendiri akhirnya mengaku memakai referensi encyclopedia of islam yg ditulis oleh orientalists non-Muslim, contradicting his own standard of true scholarship references! dalam video response ini dia terlihat juga berusaha "menyerang" salah seorang lawan debatnya yg dituduhnya juga menggunakan referensi level serupa or worst than his... kelihatan sekali he is too arrogant to admit his inconsistency dan lack of true scholarship...)

James White ini memang favoritenya kalau berdebat masalah Qur'an dan Bible, dia membawa topik "variant readings" of the Qur'an. Dia melakukan ini biasanya kalau sudah kepepet ketika kita tunjukkan ayat2 Bible yg hilang dari Bible (seperti 1 John 5:7, Mark 16:9-20, etc). Dia biasanya bilang Bible sebagaimana dengan Qur'an juga memiliki "variant readings", ada ayat2 yg ditemukan di beberapa manuscript, yg tidak dijumpai di manuscript yg lain, serupa dengan Qur'an di mana ada ayat2 yg ditemukan dalam mushafnya Ibn Mas'ud tapi tidak ditemukan dalam mushaf Utsmani sekarang ini. Kadang dia juga membawa mushaf yg ditemukan di San'a, Yaman, yg dituduh berbeda dengan mushaf umum yg kita miliki saat ini.

James juga sering menyerang Qur'an dengan dua point berikut:

  • Author of the Qur'an tidak paham konsep trinitas yg dipercayai mainstream Christians: Father, Son/Jesus, Holy Spirit - bukan God, Jesus, Mary (bisa dibaca tulisannya di: http://www.aomin.org/aoblog/index.php?itemid=243)
  • Author of the Qur'an tampaknya tidak tahu apa yang terjadi pada diri Jesus saat crucifixion dan tidak mampu menjelaskan apa yg terjadi sebenarnya. Apakah Jesus disalib tapi tidak mati cuma pingsan, atau yg disalib bukan Jesus tapi sahabat lainnya yg volunteer, atau yg disalib sebenarnya Judas yg menghianatinya, dst. Karena James White ini temannya Sam Shamoun (team answering Islam), bisa jadi dia juga memakai reference answering-islam website dalam memandang Qur'an... (http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran/) - seperti tuduhan contradictions, scientific errors, etc...


Baru2 ini James White berdebat dengan Bart Ehrman yang terkenal dengan buku2 beliau yg membeberkan evidence of the corruption of the Bible, e.g. "Misquoting Jesus", "Lost Christianities", "Lost Scriptures", etc. [note: Debat audio antara White dan Ehrman ini hanya dijual di James White's ministry for $6, tapi manuscriptnya bisa dibaca di sini: http://www.brianauten.com/Apologetics/white-ehrman-transcript.pdf. ]

Dalam debat, James White (saking semangatnya dengan topik Qur'anic variant reading ini), berusaha mendesak Ehrman untuk memberikan pendapatnya mengenai Qur'an - padahal topik debatnya mengenai New Testament - (tampaknya dia sering berdebat dengan Muslims yg selalu membawa referensi dari buku2nya Bart Ehrman mengenai Bible yg membuat dia terpojok, sehingga dia ingin sekali membuat Ehrman mengeluarkan pendapat against the Qur'an, supaya nanti James bisa bilang ke Muslims lawan2 debatnya bahwa "Bart Ehrman himself is against the authencity of Qur'an!"). Sayangnya Ehrman berlaku jujur dan mengaku memang benar2 tidak tahu tentang Qur'an. Berikut ini cuplikan debatnya mengenai hal ini:

Dr. White : So if there is any claimed Scripture from antiquity that does not have the
originals—the Qur'an has textual variations in it—they can’t possibly come from God,
then?
Dr. Ehrman :  I’m not drawing that theological conclusion. And I don’t really appreciate you likening

and with respect to—for example—the Qur'an. I don’t know anything about the Qur'an, I don’t know

know that they use my work, and I’m sorry that—if people don’t appreciate the fact that they use my

people read the books. The books, in fact, make very different points from—points about inspiration.
The books make points about whether we have the original text of the New Testament. Our topic of
debate was: “Does the Bible (or Did the Bible) Misquote Jesus?” And the answer is yes.
Remember that for most of history, the Bible was not the printed edition that you read today. For most
Christians throughout history, the Bible was whatever manuscript happened to be available to them;
what manuscript was available to the Christians and their churches. All of these manuscripts have
mistakes in them; including mistakes in the words of Jesus. All Bibles misquote Jesus.

24 season finale - and Traitor movie

TV show season finale "24" semalam seru juga. Yg menarik di akhir film tsb, di rumah sakit Jack Bauer yg sedang dying dijenguk oleh Imam masjid yang diminta datang oleh Jack. Setelah sharing feeling dan Jack ready to go, si Imam memegang tangan si Jack dan berdoa. Kalo Jack masih hidup next season, namanya berubah menjadi Ahmed Bauer nggak ya?   :)

Jadi ingat film Traitor.. yg menarik kalimat terakhir sebelum filmnya habis, antara Samir (Muslim) dan Clayton yang meminta Samir tetap menjadi federal agent tetapi Samir menolaknya. Waktu mau berpisah Clayton bilang assalamu'alaikum, lalu Samir menjawab wa'alaikum salam lalu bilang:
"And you should *start* the conversation with that."  Kalimat penutup ini sangat menyentuh, karena all the conflict was started because there is no salam / greeting of peace in the beginning between the two conflicting parties...

Mengusap muka setelah berdoa bid'ah?

Ada sebagian kelompok Muslim yang menuduh bid'ah perbuatan mengusap wajah setelah berdo'a dengan mengangkat tangan. Dasar yang mereka pakai adalah pendapat beberapa ulama yang mengatakan bahwa semua hadits yg menyebutkan hal ini sanadnya lemah. Sedangkan sebagian ulama lain, seperti Hassan Al-Basri, Imam An-Nawawi, Al-Hafizh Ibnu Hajar, menganggapnya sebagai salah satu adab dalam berdo'a. Imam Ahmad, Imam Baihaqi, Ibnul Qayyim juga tidak mencapnya sebagai bid'ah

Mereka yg menuduh tradisi ini bid'ah biasanya membawa argument dari Syekh Albani (yang dianggap selalu benar padahal tidak jarang beliau mengkoreksi pendapatnya sendiri). Tuduhan bid'ah itu adalah tuduhan yang tidak ringan, and not everything with weak textual basis can be declared as a bid'ah.

Imam Bukhari dalam Adab Al-Mufradnya menyebutkan bahwa sahabat Ibn Zubair dan Ibn Umar mengusap wajahnya setelah berdo'a. Begitu pula tabi'in seperti Hasan Al-Basri. Dari riwayat2 ini tidak sedikit ulama yang menganggap tradisi mengusap wajah setelah berdo'a mengangkat tangan bukanlah bid'ah tapi sebaliknya merupakan tradisi bisa ditemukan periwayatan2nya dari zaman para shahabat dan tabi'in.

This following is adapted from article of Shaykh Irshadul Haqq Al-Athari written about the permissibility of wiping hands on the face and a refutation of those who think it is an innovation or only done by ignorant. This article was published in Al-I’tisam and is present in the Shaykh’s “Maqalat”. Shaykh Abdel Mannan Noorpuri also mentioned it in his “Ahkam wa Masail”.

Hafiz ibn Hajar wrote in Bulugh Al-Maram concerning hadith of Umar narrated in At-Tirmidhi about wiping hands on the face after invocation : “Narrated by At-Tirmidhi, and this has Shawahid (witnesses), among them Abu Dawood from Hadith of ibn ‘Abbas and others, and the total requires that it is a Hassan hadith”

First Hadith :

The narration of At-Tirmidhi has Hammad ibn ‘Issa Al-Juhani who is weak, not Matrook or liar ( Tahzib v 6 p 419)

Second Hadith :

The narration of Ibn ‘Abbas in Abu Dawood has Salih ibn Hassaan who is Matrook as said in Taqreeb by Ibn Hajar, but it has a Mutabi with ‘Issa ibn Maymoon, as mentioned by Imam Muhammad ibn Nasr Al-Marwazi in Qyam Al-Layl p 236, but he is also weak as said by Ibn Hajar in Taqreeb p 411.

The narration of ibn ‘Abbas is also narrated by another chain by Abu Dawood from Abdullah ibn Ya’qoob from the one who narrated him from Muhammad ibn Ka’b, but this chain has AbdulMalik ibn Muhammad ibn Yaman who is Majhool (unknown) and the identity of the Shaykh of Abdullah ibn Ya’qoob is not known.

Shaykh Albani says about this Hadith in Silsila As-Sahihah v 2 p 146 : “The defect is the narrator who is not named, and ibn Majah and others named him Salih ibn Hassaan as I have shown in Mishkat 2243 and he is very weak (da’if Jiddan)”

In Irwa Al Ghalil v 2 p 178 and after, Shaykh Albani said on this hadith : “The chain is weak, this Abdul Malik has been weakened by Abu Dawood and there is in it the Shaykh of Abdullah ibn Ya’qoob who is not named, he is then Majhool, and it is possible that he might be ibn Hassaan …or ibn Maymoon”

So this is less accurate than in Sisilah where the narrator is told to be Salih ibn Hassan, here two possibilities are mentioned.

Allamah Mizzi mentioned in his Tahzib Al Kamal v 22 p 257-258 that this non-named narrator can also be Abu Miqdam.

In all cases, this narrator Mubham (non-identified) is weak, and Abu Miqdam is even Matrook.

But the words of Shaykh Albani that Abu Dawood declared Abdul Malik to be weak is absolutely incorrect. Imam Abu Dawood said : “This way is the most Amthal and it is weak”. Imam ibn Qattan declared Abdul Malik to be Majhool, and ibn Hajar as well declared him Majhool in Tahzib v 4 p 1419 and Taqrib.

Another chain is narrated by Al-Hakim in his Mustadrak, but it has Muhammad ibn Mu’awiyah who is matrook, Imam Daraqutni and others declared him to be a liar.

In conclusion, the narration of ibn ‘Abbas is narrated from many ways, that are all weak, but two are very weak as their narrators are matrook, and two have weak and Majhool narrators.

( 1 chain in Abu Dawood : Salih ibn Hassan is Matrook
2 chain in Marwazi with ‘Issa ibn Maymoon who is weak
3 chain in Abu Dawood, Abdul Malik is Majhool and the shaykh of Abdullah ibn Ya’qoob is Mubham (non identified)
4 chain in Al-Hakim with Muhammad ibn Mu’awiyah who is Matrook)

Third Hadith :

Narrated by Yazid ibn Sa’id in Abu Dawood and also Imam Muhammad ibn Khalf Al Wakee’ in Akhbar Al-Qadha v 1 p 107, but this chain is weak because of ibn La’ihah who is weak and his Shaykh Hafs ibn Hisham is Majhool.

These are all Shawahid and Mutabi’at on which Ibn Hajar based himself to declare this hadith Hassan.

The narration of ‘Umar has a weak narrator.
The narration of Yazid ibn Sa’ib has a weak and a Majhool.
The narration of ibn ‘Abbas has two chains, one with a weak and the other with a majhool and a Mubham.

So if the total is not Hassan then what is it ?

Mawqoof Hadith

Imam Bukhari narrates in his Adab Al-Mufrad : Ibrahim ibn Munzir narrated us, he said Muhammad ibn Falih narrated us, he said : my father informed me from Abu Nua’ym and he is Wahb, he said : "I saw ibn ‘Umar and ibn Zubayr making invocation and they wiped their hands on their faces."

This Athar is Hassan, and Ibn Hajar even declared it Sahih in Al-Amali, and its narrators are all from Bukhari.


The action of Hassan Al-basri

Imam Muhammad ibn Nasr Al-Marwazi narrates from Mu’tamar that he saw Abu Ka’b Abd Rabihi ibn Ubayd Al-Azdi, the author of Tahrir, invoking raising his hands and then he was wiping them on his face after finishing. I asked him why he was doing and he answered that Hassan Al-Basri was doing this. (Qyam Al-Layl p 236)

Imam Ahmad was asked about wiping hands on face in Witr and he answered : “It is narrated from Al-Hassan that he was wiping them on his face in his invocation” (Masail Imam Ahmad from narration of ibn Abdillah v 2 p 300)

Hafiz ibn Hajar said in Al-Amali : “But this Hadith has Mawsool, Mursal witnesses and the total shows that the Hadith has a basis, and this is also supported by what comes from Al-Hassan Basri with a Hassan chain, and there is in it a refutation for those who consider that as an innovation, and Al-Bukhari narrated in his Adab Al-Mufrad from Wahb ibn Kaysan, he said : he said : “I saw ibn ‘Umar and ibn Zubayr making invocation and they wipped their hands on their faces.” And this is Mawqoof Sahih and this strengthens the refutation of those who disapprove of that”

Hadith Mursal

The mursal narration to which ibn Hajar was making a sign in Al-Amali is probably that of Zuhri mentioned in AbdurRazaq saying : “The Prophet (saw) was raising his hands to the level of his chest when he was invoking and then was wiping them on his face”

The great Muhadith Faqeeh Ishaq ibn Rahawayah was approving action on these Ahadith as said by Muhammad ibn Nasr Al-Marwazi : “I saw Ishaq liking action on these Ahadith” (Qyam Al-Layl p 232)

There are two narrations from Ahmad on this topic, one is that after invocation of Witr this should not be done as narrated from Imam Abu Dawood, and the second is that it is recommended as mentioned by ibn Qudamah on Al-Maghni v 1 p 786 and Shamsudin ibn Qudamah in Sharh Al Kabeer v 1 p 724, see Al-Qil’ v 1 p 185. Al-Marwazi said that hands should be wiped on the face and : “This is the Madhab of Imam Ahmad, he was doing that”. The author of Majma’ Al-Bahrayn said this narration is stronger, and in Al-Kafi, it is said that it is better. (Al-Insaf v 3 p 173)

Hafiz ibnul Qayim mentioned that Imam Ahmad was asked about wiping hands on the face, and he answered : “ I hope there is no harm, and when Al-Hassan was invoking, he was wiping then on his face, and he said : my father was asked about raising hands in Qunut and wiping them on the face, he said : There is no harm in doing this, wiping them on the face. Abdullah said that he did not see his father wiping them on the face” ( Bada’I al-Fawaid v 4 p 113)

Imam Ibnul-Qayim commented this : “Abu Abdillah (Imam Ahmad) made the matter easy, and he considered this similar to the fact of wiping the face outside the prayer, and this is a small action of obedience and Abu Abdillah decided to leave it”

So according to Zahir saying of ibnul Qayim, Imam Ahmad did not leave that outside prayer, but only in prayer, he was not acting according to that in the prayer, yet he did not see any harm.

‘Allamah Manawi in Faydh Al-Qadir v 1 p 369 rejected the saying of ‘Izz ibn AbdiSalam that only ignorant person does this, saying it is a bid mistake.

The strange matter is that Shaykh Albani in his Al-Irwa v 2 p 182 said that An-Nawawi in his majmoo agreed with Izz ibn AbdisSalam and he declared that non recommended, while An-Nawawi said in his Sharh Al-Muhazzab v 3 p 501-505 that doing this in Witr is not recommended, and he said that Al-Bayhaqi and Ar-Rafi’I also said that, but he did not say that it was not recommended outside the prayer, rather in the end of his book Al-Azkar, he mentioned among Adab of invocation : “facing the Qiblah, and raising the hands and wiping them on the face…”

And also Al-Bayhaqi only disapproved of that in prayer, not outside the prayer. He said in his Sunan Al-Kubra v 2 p 212 : “As for wiping hands on the face after invocation, I do not know this from any Salaf in the invocation of the Qunut, although it is narrated by some about invocation outside the prayer”

Among Shawafi Qadhi Abu Tayib, Imam Al-Haramayn, ibn Sabagh, Al-Mutawali, Shaykh nasr, Imam Ghazali and Abul Khayr all agreed on weeping hands in Qunut basing on general narrations. Imam Al-Bayhaqi said at the end : “The best is not to do it (in the prayer)”

And Shaykh Irshadul Haqq Al-Athari concluded that best is not to do that in Qunut of Witr as there are no Hadith about that, this is why Imam Ahmad left that yet he did not declare that doing it in prayer was an innovation, he said there is no Harm.

Personal Notes : For doing that outside the prayer, Ibn Hajar declared totality of ahadith to be Hassan, Imam Ishaq was liking action on these Ahadith, there come this from Ibn ‘umar and Ibn Zubayr as narrated by Al-Bukhari, and action of Sahabi is a Hujjah for 4 schools when there is no ikhtilaf, and it comes from Mursal of Zuhri, and Mursal is a Hujjah for Ahnaf and Malikiyah, and for Shafii it is accepted with some conditions : The Tabii should be big and it should also come in musnad way, and it is the case here.
